In Italy Internal Areas represent about the 53 per cent of italian municipalities (4.261) where is concentrated the 23 per cent of italian population, equal to more than 13.540 inhabitants who live in a piece of space that exeeds the 60 per cent of national area. The national strategy for the Internal Areas is the answer that three governments confirmed to be gived to the marginalisation that has characterised the recent history of these areas. This marginalisation has led to degradation, and in some cases also to the loss of social, historic and environmental heritage of these areas. To this day, about two years since the start, the national strategy for the internal areas has selected, by agreement with Regions and Autonomous Provinces, 65 italian territorial areas testing a new and partecipated method. Strategy has started working in each region prototype area and in two experimental areas. Seminar will cover: 1) The politic process for the Strategy building and integration in 'Accordo di Partenariato con la Commissione Europea e nel Piano nazionale di Riforma' ; 2) Methodological issues: the Map of Internal Areas; use of Open Internal Areas, an arsenal of indicators avaiable to policy makers and citizens; 3) Strategy implementation: the case of Antola Tigullio and Valchiavenna
